Family Education and Support
IAC 281-16.3(12) The preschool program shall involve families through at least one home visit, one family night and at least two family-teacher conferences per year.
Gilmore City-Bradgate has conferences for 4 year old preschool students along with the Kindergarten through 6th grade students October 8th and 10th of 2013 and March 26th and 27th of 2014.
Preschool Family Night is November 21st of 2013. This event is put together in collaboration with the school and Building Families representatives. It is split into two sessions. The first session is planned by the preschool teacher which promotes a child and parent task as well as, a snack activity to work on following directions and fine motor skills. The second session is with parents only and the Building Families representative. They will have a workshop with the parents present to incorporate strategies and resources that they can use in their homes. This Family Night is open to all parents and required for those who are participating with the Building Families 3 year old school scholarship program.
Each year, 4 year old preschool students and their families have a home visit from the teacher. These are usually conducted at the beginning of the year before school starts. Below is a typical itinerary of a homevisit:
Introductions of teacher and/or associates
Introduction of preschool mascot Petey
Discussion with parents on the classroom, centers, and typical scheduled day
Hand out Explanation of Centers worksheet and copy of GOLD Assessment standards
Hand out Preschool Handbook if not picked up at registration or open house
Go over My Teacher Wants To Know
Discussion of what they want their child to get out of preschool
Take picture of individual child and child with their parent
Introductions of teacher and/or associates
Introduction of preschool mascot Petey
Discussion with parents on the classroom, centers, and typical scheduled day
